Which instrument should I play, the Flugelhorn of the French Horn?
I have played the trumpet for 4 years now and want to choose another instrument. I have narrowed it down to those two. Please list the pros or cons.
As I'm sure you know, the Flugelhorn is just a streamlined version of the French Horn but it does project sound better as the bell is pointed forward.
What type of music do you play? Jazz? Orchestral?
If I were you (since you have been playing the Trumpet for 4 years) I would learn the French Horn. As soon as you master the fingering of the French Horn your training in the Trumpet field should allow you to pick up the Flugelhorn and learn to play it rather quickly as the configuration of the Trumpet and Flugelhorn are very similar.
By learning the French Horn you are killing two birds with one stone.
