What electronic component makes a strobe light strobe?
In a strobe light there is obviously a power source and then something that stops the passing of voltage to a certain point where it builds up then releases it all at once. What might this component be called?
Thats not how a strobe works. The tube is similar to that in a flash gun. It relies on a large capacitor charged to a highish voltage (this is done using a step up transformer and high frequency ocillator then rectifying the result). The flash is then triggered by a short second very high voltage pulse from another transformer - this ionises the gas in the tube and the main capacitor discharges through it. The frequency at which this trigger is applied determines how fast the tube flashes.
If more control is needed a thyristor can be used to cut off the main capacitor.
