what does a 8 ohm and a 4 ohm speaker cabinet =?
i have a ampeg classic head with a 2 or 4 ohm switch ...my question is can i use a 4 and a 8 ohm cabinet work with this amp? do i need to re wire?
Yes, it will work - even though there's a "mismatch" between the output impedance of the amplifier and the speakers, and some power will be lost, it's not too significant in terms of the volume (3 dB for 4 ohm output into 8 ohm speaker).
If it was the other way around (i.e. 2 ohm speakers on a 4 or 8 ohm amplifier) I'd be more concerned with excessive power dissipation in the amplifier, as the low impedance speakers would put a heavier load on the amp.
