Why learning Soprano Saxophone is not recommended to the first time sax learner.?
Nothing is hard to be learnt if you never give up.
While the reed is an issue, the two bigger issues are intonation, and music availability. First, soprano saxophones are notoriously bad on intonation. For a student who is just working on learning the instrument, trying to figure out how to play it in tune is one more big issue that just makes learning it even harder. Playing alto or tenor which, for the most part, play in tune with no issue at all is much easier because there is one less hurdle to clear to play well.
The biggest issue though is available parts for playing. Especially for students in school, there is little to no music available for soprano saxophone to play. It just isn't written for in Band Music. The part shows up occasionally, but it is 5% or less of the music out there that includes the part.
