How likely to actually damage a Les Paul without pickguard? Epiphone Studio Worn Brown (dark natural) finish.?
I've been playing a Les Paul for years without a pickguard, and there are minor swells. The same type of mini-scratches you get all over the finish - so it's no big deal.
This is with a standard high-gloss finish. I've never played their worn finishes, but I'm guessing those sorts of tiny lines won't show up as noticeably with non-gloss finishes.
Either way, leaving the pickguard off a LP is no big deal. It's mostly a matter of aesthetics.
