In the Indigo Girls' song, what is a Scooter Boy?
"Scooter Boys and Argentinians. Europe shed the blood of the Indians."
What the heck is a Scooter Boy? I've never been able to find an answer, and it's always bugged me. Thanks!
According to Wikipedia, it's a member of a British (European) subculture that was based around riding motor scooters. The diseases that Europeans exposed the Argentinians to were responsible for practically wiping out the indigenous peoples of Argentina (who were Indians).
Those lyrics seem like a mockery of what was done to the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Here's this proud group of Indians, right? Powerful warriors who were responsible for developing the cultivation of maize (among other things). And who ends up practically wiping out their society? Scooter boys.
Of course, I could be wrong, but that's my take on it.
