hi can anyone provide me with good guides that are very clear
that will help me, a complete beginner, learn the diatonic harmonica in C?
I disagree strongly with the message of the first two posts. I agree in the spirit of music, they profess, but I can't sit by as people encourage poor musicianship on the harmonica. I have to chime in with Martin and the fellow above my post.
We really don't need anymore people abusing the harmonica in the vein of Springsteen, Neil Young, Alanis Morressette, etc. Their harmonica playing is equivalent to someone picking up a child's recorder, learning the major scale, then getting on stage. No other instrument (other than harmonica,and maybe voice) would be allowed to suck so bad on a national level.
We need to create more harmonica musicians and raise awareness that the harmonica (although cheap) is a valid instrument too.
I love the books of Jon Gindick and Dave Barrett (harmonicamasterclass dot com). I believe in learning from the masters by studying their music, as well. Little Walter, Big Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Paul Butterfield. If you want to play Blues Harp well, I think you need to cross your theory/technique work with study of the greats. The ultimate goal should be (IMHO) the expression of one's own soul through the music one makes. As Jason Ricci says, "Immitate, Integrate, then Innovate"
Currently, youtube has a great deal of harmonica-lesson videos. The master, Jon Gindick is on there (jamcamp06) as well as Adam Gussow (kudzurunner). Adam may be a bit more advanced, but his teaching is excellent, and will be there When You get to that level.
